Welcome Welcome to the Battle for Christ website, a battle in which Contemporary Christian and Christian Rock bands compete for opportunities to perform in multiple festivals in KY, TN, & IN. 2012 will mark the 4th year of the program and promises to be the largest yet. Bands will have the opportunity to perform at JFEST, Three Rivers, and Ichthus Festivals. The top overall band will perform at Fort Hood for thousands of soldiers.Battles will occur in TN, GA, KY, & IN, each consisting of 8 bands performing 20 minutes sets. Six battles will provide 48 total bands competing from Februarry through June.Check the battle schedule for dates and venues.It is our goal to provide positive concerts for youth while providing opportunities for Christian bands to perform. Each band that enters will be placed on our website as well as the Ichthus Festival website. Entries will be accepted soon. The entry fee includes includes 1 ticket for each band to attend the Ichthus Festival. The battle consists of: 6 Regional Battles - 8 Bands (Total of 48 bands) One Contemporary Christian and one Christian Rock band from each battle will move on to a semi final. Semi-Finals - 6 Bands Winning Christian Rock bands will compete in a semi finals with 6 Christian Rock Bands. A semi finals will also take place for 6 Contemporary Christian bands. Finals Four Contemporary Christian bands will compete in the finals the night beffore JFEST in Chattanooga, TN in June. The top band will perform the next day at JFEST, sharing the stage with major label artists (To be announced by J103/ approx 10,000 in attendance) The top 2 final bands will compete in the Ascenxion Scout Project (battle) at the Ichthus Festival in Wilmore, KY. Both bands will play other stages at the festvial as well. The top Contemporary Christian winner will also perform at theThree Rivers festival in JFort Wane, IN in uly 2012. Six Christian Rock bands will move on from the Semi Finals to compete in the Finals. The top 2 bands will move on to Ichthus to perform in the Ascension Scout Project. Each band will also perform on other stages at Ichthus. The winning Ascenxion Scout Band will move on to an opportunity with the Christian Festival Association to perform at 12 national festivals in 2013. The top overall winner of both genres will perform with other Legacy Christian Artists at Fort Hood, TX at a military Christian concert.

Judging Criteria

judging criteria & Rules

Although different judges will be utilized in each of the locations the scoring criteria for the battle will be consistent throughout. ALL competitions will utilize 3 judges. Each judge's score card will provide the opportunity for the band to gain 33.3 points.VERY IMPORTANT: Each band will be required to provide 3 sets of lyrics (one set per judge) prior to their performance. Bands are not judged on writing ability. This is done so the judges can ensure that each band has a Christian message/Christian lyrics.Each band will have a 30 minute slot. The time starts when the band takes the stage. Set up time is included in the 30 minutes. Legacy will have a stage crew to assist in a quick set up. Your band can wait until the band on stage moves their equipment off. Once your band begins moving gear on, the clock starts. It is imperative that all guitars are tuned prior to taking the stage. Legacy will provide a drum kit. Please look at the schedule for your battle to see what equipment will be provided what you need to bringWe will conduct a briefing prior to the battle. This time will be spent providing information regarding set up, performances, judging, etc. We will also spend time in prayer.The criteria used by the judges will include but is NOT limited to:Most important: Is there a Christian message in the lyrics and performance? (If you are not a Christian band, please do not apply)1. Preperation a. Was the band ready when they took the stage? b. Did the band spend time on stage tuning prior to the beginning of their performance or were they ready? c. Evidence of rehearsal 2. Appearance a. Does the band look professional? b. Is the band organized on stage? c. Are band dressed like professionals (match attire to their style/genre?)3. Interaction With The Crowd a. Did the band interact with the crowd? b. Did the band introduce its members? c. Did band members engage the crowd during the performance?4. Quality of Performance a. Is the band ready for a national stage performance? b. Is the band musically tight? c. Does the band interact with each other on stage? d. Is the band rehearsed in both the music and performance? e. What is the attitude of the artists ? The Final Battle will be conducted at Ichthus. Four bands from our battle will be combined with 6 bands from IL & OH for a total of 10 bands. Ichthus will provide three judges from three (3) different record labels; (Word Records, Go Tee Records & ?). These judges will determine the overall winner, who will move on to the Word Record battle conducted in Nashville in September.

3. Top 2 bands will compete in the Ichthus/Christian Festival Association (CFA) battle. Winner will move on to the

CFA Final Battle (14) bands. Winner of the this battle will perform at all 14 CFA Festivals nationwide in 2012.

TOP OVERALL BAND

The top overall band (selection process will include: input by Judges, judging scores, PS21 Media, & Artportunity Knocks) will perform at Fort Hood, TX in September 2012 at a concert held for soldiers.

Point of Pride: The Battle for Christ has provided the winner of the Ascenxion Scout Project at Ichthus three years in a row. This accomplishment indicates that our program allows great bands to rise to the top among hundreds of bands nationwide, providing them with networking opportunities, and positive attention by multiple festivals and promoters.

2011 BFC Winners

Congratulations to God Struck from TX for winning the TOP SPOT in the contemporary Christian battle at JFEST. They performed at Ichthus in Wilmore, KY and Three Rivers Festival in Fort Wayne, IN. They will perform as special guests at JFEST in 2012.

Bone Prophet from Walland, TN won 1st place in the Christian Rock category. They also performed at Ichthus and opened for Stellar Kart in Ohio.

The RIsing out of Nashville, TN took the top spot by winning 1st place in the Ascenxion Scout Project at Ichthus. They have moved on to the National Talent Search of the Christian Festival Association.
